MoCA ADDS ANOTHER SILICON VENDOR IN AMCC
San Ramon, California, August 29, 2006 – Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ: AMCC) is adding to the
silicon strength that now characterizes the Multimedia over Coax Alliance MoCA™) by becoming its 10th silicon
"We believe technologies that enable the lowest operational expense will speed the adoption for triple-play services consisting of voice, video and data, and future enhanced services in the home," said Subhash C. Roy, CTO, Transport Products, AMCC. "MoCA represents the most promising of these technologies for deterministic, guaranteed bandwidth for these converged networks. AMCC is well poised to capitalize on this rapidly growing opportunity and ecosystem."
“AMCC, with its expertise in network and multimedia processing, is a welcome addition to MoCA’s silicon vendor membership,” said Ladd Wardani, president of MoCA. “AMCC can develop MoCA technology in a well-known and level playing field, including a defined RAND licensing environment and the ability to certify compliance of their designs.”
Membership in MoCA provides access to MoCA’s intellectual property under reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND) licensing terms, as well as the ability to certify MoCA compliance of designs, and therefore assures the industry of a standards-based solution. The full MAC/PHY v1.0 specification, ongoing certification waves, RAND licensing environment and membership by all the key MoCA intellectual property holders, assures any chip vendor or other entity that they will develop MoCA technology and products in a well-known and level playing field, and then be able to certify end products to show their MoCA compliance.
